The Pantone Spring 2014 Color Palette, Styled by Mosaic!

Pantone’s Spring 2014 color palette is out, which means in addition to the color of the year, Radiant Orchid, we can expect to see these hues pop up in everything from fashion to home décor to event design.  The key to great event décor is setting the stage with color and texture. Here's our take on a few of the vibrant colors selected for Spring 2014 as they pertain to event style!

The Color: VIOLET TULIP
THE LINEN: Violet Lattice Sheer- This whimsical yet structured pattern works with many events. We love it for formal events that still call for some playful elements.
THE EVENT: An Avant Garde Wedding in a non-traditional artistic venue, like the Andy Warhol Museum in Mosaic’s home base of Pittsburgh, PA.

THE OUTFIT: As a guest to an Avant Garde wedding, you’ll want to take a cue from the invitation as to how formal or informal you can get! Keep in mind that it’s always better to be over-dressed rather than under-dressed. Step into this incredible whimsical yet structured (just like our linen recommendation!) violet Josh Goot dress, paired with an artful and unexpected metallic shoe like these Alice + Olivia cut out peep toe booties.

The Color: PALOMA
THE LINEN: Smoke Paillette- This linen is the picture of elegance and will lend that “Cinderella at the Ball” moment to just about any venue. When paired with uplighting, this fabric will reflect colored light making the material as diverse as it is beautiful!
THE EVENT: A Black Tie Gala

THE OUTFIT: This season, it’s all about liquid metals and creative ways to work hues of silver, gold and bronze into your wardrobe. For a formal affair, go for full-on-glam in a Jenny Packham silver gown, dripping in luxury with sparkling embellishments. Pair with a sultry red lip, like Sparkling Cool Red from Dior and you'll be ready to dazzle!

The Color: FREESIA
THE LINEN: Lemon Moire Bengaline- This material is sunny and cheerful, and looks equally amazing for a farm-style picnic or more tailored events like tea, engagement or dinner parties set in a garden.
THE EVENT: An Elegant Spring Garden Party

THE OUTFIT: Go casual but upscale with a dress by Missoni.

Missoni

Missoni is famous for eye-catching prints in flattering cuts and materials that are comfortable yet sophisticated. Pair with gold gladiator sandals and an arm full of gold bangles like the Bardot Bangle from Stella & Dot, and enjoy a lovely, sparkling evening in the garden.

The Color: CELOSIA ORANGE
THE LINEN: Orange Como- The vibrant color and modern pattern just scream fun! Pair with other colors and patterns for a fashion-forward look or keep it simple with clean centerpieces for a refreshing and youthful vibe.
THE EVENT: A Graduation Party

THE OUTFIT: When attending a graduation party you never know what you are going to get- it could be a casual back yard BBQ filled with family friendly games or a more formal gathering that calls for a more demure look- so it’s best to be prepared! Go with versatile pieces that can be dressed up or dressed down like these vibrant orange macramé Valentino shorts. Pair with a crisp white button down or a fitted denim shirt to complete the look. And while we think cork wedges like the leg lengthening Christian Louboutin Tramontagne Leather & Cork Wedges are always the perfect compliment to a dressy pair of shorts, don’t forget to sneak a fun, coordinating pair of casual, functional and portable shoes, like Tom’s, in your bag for games and picnic-style activities.

The Color: DAZZLING BLUE
THE LINEN: Blue Chevron- This linen combines hues of blues in the hottest pattern to hit the marketplace over the past three years. Chevron is here to stay, with more color options than ever to make a splash at your special event!
THE EVENT: A Colorful and Chic Cocktail Party

THE OUTFIT: When attending a cocktail party, it’s time to wear those vibrant flirty cuts and colors that the scenery demands. Loud music, cold drinks and your hottest dance moves are on the menu!
Slip into a daring number from Peter Pilotto in an otherworldy print that is sexy but structured for a head-turning va-va-voom effect! Pair with a sky high metallic heels from the collections of Brian Atwood, and this look will light up the night.

2014 Trends to Watch

2014! Time to reflect on the past year and to start making plans… 365 blank pages to write. It’s an exciting time!

In the event industry, we love to follow trends, and a New Year means that new trends are on the horizon. Inspiration is already popping up in hot new décor and today we are taking a look at some of the new trends taking shape in our space.

Trend #1: Gemstone Glam
With the recent announcement of Radiant Orchid as the new Pantone color of the year, watch out for gem tones in 2014! Bridal party dresses, linens, invites, and of course flowers will be infused with rich vibrant hues such as amethyst, cobalt, saffron and emerald. While recent Spring seasons have evoked a sense of calm with shades of blush and pastel, don’t be surprised to find saturated color gracing the runways and tabletop design.

Trend #2: Fusion
Unexpected pairings have been making their mark in recent seasons. Think shabby chic. Recall burlap with bling. While we expect the unexpected “glamour with grit” concept to continue in 2014, this year we will see even more of it. Menus both in chic restaurants and at catered affairs will incorporate fused Latino Asian dishes such as Buddakan's Cantonese Steamed Sole in New York City. Décor will be even more “retro-modern.” Mosaic is riding the fusion wave with a new bold black Chevron burlap runner, which is already in demand for events this upcoming Spring.

Trend #3: More is More
When Jay Gatsby hit the silver screen last year, we all wanted in on the action. Art deco action that is! In 2013, we saw trends in 20’s inspired patterns, headpieces and other dramatic accessories and, of course, all things with sparkle. In 2014, the bling effect grows even bigger. Expected on the runways and in tabletop décor will be sequin, beading and applique reflecting light. Consider Son Jung Wang’s look from her Spring 2014 collection.

While metallic and accents of silver and gold will remain strong in 2014, this is the year of bling exploding with color. Mosaic is already on board with our new bold hued colored sequin line. It’s hot, hot, hot for upcoming events around the country.
