Dance into the New Year with this Vivacious and Appealing Reddish Orange

From Pantone:

The 2011 color of the year, PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.
“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Over the past several years, orange has grown in popularity and acceptance among designers and consumers alike. A provocative attention-getter, Tangerine Tango is especially appealing in men’s and women’s fashion. Fashion designers featured in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2012, including Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Steffe by Shaun Kearney, Elie Tahari and Adrienne Vittadini, are incorporating this attractive orange into their spring collections. A fun, lively take on a traditional autumnal hue, Tangerine Tango will surely carry through to fall fashion as well.

A winner in cosmetics because of its versatility, Tangerine Tango is a bit exotic, but in a very friendly, non-threatening way. Add a sultry flair to lips, cheeks and nails with Tangerine Tango. An unexpected eye shadow color, Tangerine Tango is a complementary opposite that flatters blue or green eyes. When paired with brown eyes, it brings out an amber cast.
Energize interior spaces with Tangerine Tango patterned home accessories. Pillows, bedspreads and tabletop accessories in this high-impact hue add spice to any room. Or incorporate Tangerine Tango appliances and personal electronics for an unexpected pop of color. Looking for an inexpensive way to perk up your home? Paint a wall in Tangerine Tango for a dynamic burst of energy in the kitchen, entryway or hallway.

Operation Outreach Welcomes Hurricane Katrina Survivors Home!

operation outreach

The recovery after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina continues still today. When the storm ripped through the Gulf Coast in 2005, millions were displaced and thousands of homes were destroyed. Six years after the storm, people are still struggling to rebuild their lives and so much still needs to be done.

This is why Mosaic launched Operation Outreach. Losing a home means more than simply losing a house. A home is a safe haven, a place of comfort and warmth. Rebuilding a home means more than putting up walls. Families need to feel that they finally have a refuge from life’s storms. They need a place of beauty that welcomes them and greets them at the end of a hard day. Operation Outreach is dedicated to fixing and furnishing homes for families displaced by disasters.

This past July, we had the honor of helping some of those in need in the New Orleans area. We teamed up with the St. Bernard Project, Mark Wells of Hello Florida!, a destination management company that serves meeting planners, and Richard Carbotti of Perfect Surroundings, a special events design company, to help rebuild and refurnish two homes in St. Bernard Parish.

Jeffery and Raywin Jones found themselves living in a FEMA trailer after Hurricane Katrina forced them from their home of 14 years. Their need for a permanent home increased when their son Dale, a special needs child, was born after the storm. Similarly, Helen Green and her three children had been living with her mother after the storm destroyed their New Orleans’ home. The St. Bernard Project took both families under their wing and has been rebuilding their houses and generously invited us to join them. Before the trip our team worked with these families to created unique design plans with the Green and Jones family in mind. With their input and distinct taste we were able to incorporate their own tastes and even salvage pieces from their prior homes.

We set to work moving in furniture, laying carpet, hanging pictures and creating a home of which these families could be proud. Our fantastic team worked tirelessly in the rain to create a beautiful, welcoming safe haven. In all, 15,000 items were donated -- enough items to help even more households!

We want to thank everyone at Mosaic for supporting our efforts, and a special thank you to all our donors, fans and advocates that have helped us help so many others. And to the Jones and Green families, Welcome Home!

Late Night Loungin'

Long after the bride and groom have said “I do,” the Maid of Honor has toasted the happy couple, and Donna Summer has sung The Last Dance, guests may be getting ready to go home. But, why end the night there? Instead, transform the wedding reception into the “after party", providing guests with a version of a current trend that is popping up in venues across the globe: the late-night lounge. Creating a chic space for intimate hangin’ will entice your guests to stay and play into the wee hours of the night. Sofas, ottomans, daybeds, and oversized pillows can make a magical setting for the after party. Opening a specialty bar, complete with clusters of lamps and dripping crystal strands suspended from above, will set the stage for luxury lounging. Lighting the room with a sea of candles will enhance the atmosphere and will, no doubt, ensure that the memory-making will last until dawn!

Party Planning Tips: Color Shy?

Perhaps your event is not designed for 1,000 guests in a big tent. In fact, maybe your latest masterpiece is only a small jewel of an affair. Don't be shy... color shy, that is! If you love the idea of color, but feel your event isn't scaled for a floor-to-ceiling treatment, consider using color as a building block for only some components of your affair. Utilize a long sharing table and split the linear dimension into several sets of color so that it changes visually across the tablespan. Consider blocking tables so that all linens are one color, all napkins are a second color, and florals are third monochromatic color family. Even chairs or ottomans can add a color block to the palette. This concept works perfectly for affairs that have just handfuls of guests. The end result can create the same visual excitement for a small intimate party that a dramatic tent can create for a cast of thousands. So don't be shy. Use bursts of color in small doses to wow guests in the most intimate of affairs.

Featured Event: Mad About Hue

It’s time to get bold, find courage and step out of the box... with color! This season, don’t be afraid to immerse yourself in fields of color. As you plan your next event, use color as a tool. Fill your space from top to bottom with bright bold hues and color block your room to create the excitement that we all aim for in event design. Take every detail and block it - from carpet and chairs, to linens, napkins and chargers, and of course florals and tent liners sweeping high in the air. Too much is never enough. This season, color never looked so inviting, so dramatic and so adventuresome. Color can be vivid, invigorating and even a little wild. So take a new look at your space with a fresh perspective. Combine the brightest of brights in big blocks of color. Consider your event to be a blank canvas waiting to be transformed into masterpiece of modern art.

Spring to Life

clip_image002

On behalf of everyone who suffered through Winter’s long, dreary, freezing months, Mosaic would like to extend a warm welcome to Spring! The season’s bright, refreshing qualities are certainly in the air. With longer days, warmer temperatures and flowers poking through the soil, it is time start anew. Wardrobe changes, spring cleaning, and new workout regimes seem to inspire the mind and body. With your soul awakened and rejuvenated (and ready to break out from a long and lazy winter hibernation), now is the time to spring into action.
First order of business: the mind and body. Ready to tackle something new? Sign up for a language course, take piano lessons, or enroll in painting or photography classes. Not feeling so artsy? Try taking up pilates or hot yoga – today, these classes can be found in almost every neighborhood. Start a book club, participate in cooking classes; try something NEW to engage yourself. You’ll be surprised what it will do for your psyche.

mosaic1

Next step: feed your soul. Weed out things that are draining your time and energy, and focus on what counts. Spend quality time with family or loved ones. Give 100% effort at work and at play. Eat healthy, exercise, and make time for what matters to you.
Finally, give back to your community. In light of recent worldwide events, including the devastation in Japan, use some of your time or resources to make a difference. Volunteer at the local animal rescue league, help prepare food at a food bank, or help raise money for a cause near and dear to your heart. With so much need out there in the world, contributing to your community will make an impact. And you will be surprised at how good it feels to give.

Here at Mosaic, we are looking forward to a revitalizing and bountiful season. With increased efforts to recycle boxes and hangers, as well as our goal to keep our office as paperless as possible, we aim to conserve every day. To feed our souls with passion and keep our products fresh and current, we are constantly on the hunt for new trends and fabrics. Most recently, we have collected fresh ideas and plenty of new fabrics at two trade shows. With our latest finds, we have created new applications of these products for each of you to use at your next event. Whether you’re looking for table linens, ottoman covers, lampshades, or napkin rings, Mosaic has a plethora of inspiration!

Hot off the press! With our inspired minds and love for our event professionals, Mosaic has taken the lead on a nationwide calling for our industry colleagues to give back. We’ve recently developed the concept of "Operation Outreach: Event Pros in Action," which will make its debut in New Orleans this summer. Mosaic has spearheaded the effort and response has gone viral! Industry professionals from all parts of the USA will make the trip to NOLA to work on homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina 5 ½ years ago. What's more, we will be collecting donated items from the event companies (whose warehouses are full of china, glass, silver, tables, chairs, fabrics, furniture and so much more) and transporting them to NOLA to help furnish the homes of so many families in need. Stay tuned for more on Operation Outreach!

The Mosaic team is certainly springing into action - both with new products and with our efforts within the community. We aim to give 100% effort in all that we do and look forward to working with you. Together we can celebrate, inspire and share in all that life brings our way.

Animal House to Inauguration

In our most recent blog we told you about an exciting event we were working on in Harrisburg, PA.  As promised, the photos are in and we cannot wait to share our adventure with you.  After a 4 hour journey across the state, Mosaic joined “Team Tolo” in the transformation of The Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, just wrapping up an 8-day Pennsylvanian Farm Show (consisting of 400,000 people and 6,500 farm animals), into an elegant inaugural ball setting for Governor-Elect Tom Corbett.  In the end, 5000 guests celebrated in style, sipping cocktails in chic lounge areas and kicking up their heels on the dance floor.  That’s not to say we did not encounter some not-so-sweet hurdles along the way!

The fine details of this photo will be left to the imagination. . .
At the same time we were setting up for our event, we viewed an annual Amish horse auction in action. Smell what we're stepping in?
Just days prior to the event, a prized chicken fight had taken place.  We hope the best cock won!
The Mosaic Van arrives holding (no, wait . . . busting at the seams with) hundreds of linens.  For the hundreds of cloths that could not fit in our tiny van, we called in the big rigs, courtesy of our friends Three Rivers Entertainment.
With an assortment of aromas including gasoline from the tractor pulls, sweet oil from the fried donuts, and the droppings of prized livestock still lingering in the air from the Farm Show (not to mention the piles of steaming manure out back), event planner extraordinaire Shelly Tolo had her work cut out for her. First came the VIP reception for 500 situated in a ballroom that seemed like miles away from the main reception where a guest-list of 5000 partygoers would toast to Governor Corbett later in the night. With Z-racks full of linens (we’re talking over 500 cloths!) and dozens of volunteers to help, Mosaic covered close to 500 tables over a two day period.  Elevated sky lounges complete with benches, curved high-back sofas, ottomans, and breathtaking crystal LED color-changing chandeliers added depth and dimension to an area of 174,000 square feet - aka the size of three football fields (yes, we walked every last bit of it, over and over again.) Towering in the perimeter of the venue, four 27-foot-wide projection screens were erected throughout the room where, during the previous week, slightly smaller screens showed cow-milking demonstrations.

At least we got our workout for the week . . .
Guests were treated to cocktails at thirty bars (holding 8,000 wine glasses, 6,000 martini glasses) and five food stations (each utilizing 20 tables), creatively designed by Harrisburg’s own JDK Group, incorporating signature dishes from all four corners of our state (from Philly cheese steaks to Asiago Perogies, and who could forget the sandwiches loaded with French fries –  a true Pittsburgh experience).

In light of the tragedy in Arizona of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, already high security was elevated to new levels. With bomb sniffing dogs, Federal agents complete with body scanners and wands (though her credentials were checked months before, event planner Tolo was wanded 19 times on the day of the event), guests decked in floor length gowns and Manolos could rest assured that they were well cared for during this night to remember.

When Governor Corbett, alongside wife Susan, stepped on to the dance floor for the first dance, Shelly Tolo sighed with relief and toasted the night with her team. The event was flawless.  Thousands of guests and close to 100 members of the media could feel the pride radiating from the dance floor.

Linens featured at this event: White Black Vintage Damask; Gold Sheer Circles; Valentine Circle Taffeta; Maize Mini Pintuck; White Black Lusso; Black w/Silver Infinity; Silver Iridescent Crush; Red Satin Stripe
